On Death

I think I wouldn’t mind so much
if tomorrow I were to die
but I suppose I would rather mind,
if my death caused you to cry.

This morbid indifference I maintain
is disturbing, and yet I find
those who happen to love me
are reason enough to mind.

So the next time Death peeks
around the corner at me
I’ll say he can have me any time,
but first he must take thee.
